- Resistance: The word chef has been hijacked by men, so much more intellectual when a man is doing it, hey? I wonder what Nigella would think of the chef/cook debate. Nigella Lawson is robust and round, roman(y)esque. I adore her because her rebellion is that she will be seen eating. How peculiar is it that women and girls cannot be see to eat? We don't have bound feet, we have bound mouths. Warm, natural, real, and unutterably beautiful. I love the way she speaks, not just her words but the timbre of her voice. If you have only seen the shows (that I have watched so many times I can recite the dialogue) she is mysterious. Cooking by the sea, in her nightgown, her husband nowhere to be seen. So strange. I love wondering. I love the way the kitchen is a wreck when she is finished cooking, and I love that she shows us herself tidying up. My idea of the woman I would spend my life with. PS: I have tried to understate this case.
